Kabambe takes campaign promises to Chitipa

UTM Party presidential candidate Dalitso Kabambe on Monday stormed Chitipa district with his ‘multi billion’ kwacha plans to resuscitate the country’s ailing economy.

The whistle-stop tour began at Chitipa Boma with a second stop at Chendo before wrapping up the day at Misuku in Chitipa East Constituency.

Kabambe: I will revive the economy. I Jordan Simeon-Phiri

At these three venues, Kabambe, a former Reserve Bank of Malawi governor, took a swipe at the government for inflicting pain to Malawians through mismanagement of the economy which he said has resulted in skyrocketing of prices of basic commodities.

He said: “Once voted into power, my first assignment will be to revive the country’s ailing economy and reduce the inflation rate so that prices of basic commodities could come down for the common man to afford.

“My administration will also reintroduce fertiliser subsidy programme on top of reducing fertiliser prices to less than K50 000 per a 50 kilogramme bag. We will also intensify irrigation farming because this country’s economy is agro based.”

Kabambe said his administration will invest K500 billion into the mining sector and open 10 new mining companies that will create five million jobs.

“All you need is to vote wisely. We have the best manifesto that has solutions to the country’s socio-economic woos. We will pump in K500 billion into manufacturing companies such as juice making factories, coffee processing plant in Misuku, cooking oil refineries that will in turn create employment and generate forex.

Chitipa East Constituency shadow parliamentarian Frankyn Mwakalinga said Misuku is a food basket which produces bananas, coffee, beans and maize but farmers fail to secure reliable markets due to bad condition of the road
